System freeze / kernel panic on Ubuntu & Arch (RTX 3060 server machine)
Hi everyone,
I’m facing a serious stability issue on a server machine with an RTX 3060.
The system either:
- Completely freezes (no SSH, no response), OR
- Shows a kernel panic like:
Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill the idle task
RIP: enqueue_entity+0x15a/0x3b0
spi_intel_pci spi_intel idma64 wmi
Important detail:
This happens on both Ubuntu 24.04 and Arch Linux, fresh installs.
Machine details:
- GPU: NVIDIA RTX 3060
- CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-14900KS
- RAM: 128.0 GiB (4200 MT/s)
- Kernel version: (6.8.0-101-generic, linux-zen)
- NVIDIA driver version: (tried diff versions like [535, 550, 580, 590]
- No overclock
Context:
This machine is used for GPU workloads (CUDA / DeepStream / AI inference).
The crash/freezing sometimes happens under load, sometimes randomly.
