Travelling to Japan Mar End April First Week. Need places where nature is walkable

I have been to Japan twice and done Tokyo & Fukuoka. Did not like Fukuoka as it felt like city with nature access very far by public bus etc.

I am looking to come back third time and looking for places where nature is right there and walkable. Eg Mountains, Lakes, Beaches etc with town for night time bustle etc.

Not looking for car rental based places as dont know how to drive. Hence Okinawa ruled out of should I not, is staying in Maha good enough to walk to beaches?

Was thinking Hokadato, Otsu, Kobe etc plus Kyoto.
