why do students see their cellphones like their security blanket? why are they so fearful of giving them up even if its only during instruction time

it's crazy how cellphones are like their life and blood to the point where its a struggle for many to give them up.

I have a student who is incredibly behaved yet when it comes to cellphones he tries to get away with not putting it in the box.

i confronted him about the issue and he got so nervous and said, " you can refer me to the office if you want"

i honestly felt bad for the kid because he looked so nervous about being confronted by a teacher.
