Designing an Embedded System to Measure Ping Pong Ball Velocity and Spin: What’s Realistic for an Undergraduate?
Hello,
I’m an undergraduate Computer Engineering student still working through my core courses. I’m really interested in table tennis, and I’ve been thinking about eventually building a device that can measure the velocity and spin of a ping pong ball with reasonable accuracy.
Beyond computer vision, what subject areas would a project like this realistically involve? My goal is to develop it as a genuine embedded systems project rather than just a software-based vision implementation.
If anyone is willing to offer guidance, I’d really appreciate help understanding what’s realistically achievable at my level and what technical limitations I should expect to encounter.
Thanks!
