Temperament or something else?
7 month old baby girl – looking for insight or similar experiences
I’m feeling really worried and hoping to hear from other parents.
My daughter is 7 months old and has cried inconsolably for long periods since birth. As a newborn she had a short NICU stay due to a fever — she received IV antibiotics and had bloodwork and tests done, but nothing major was found.
Since then, she’s had ongoing periods where she will cry intensely and inconsolably until she exhausts herself or falls asleep. She sometimes ends up out of breath from crying. Even now at 7 months, she is rarely happy. She often cries when someone looks at her (even familiar people), though occasionally she will smile back. She usually has good eye contact and does hold and play with toys.
We recently started solids and she hates it — gags, spits food out, seems very uncomfortable with it.
She is not yet rolling or sitting independently. I’m concerned about possible low muscle tone and we are seeing a doctor about this soon. She tolerates tummy time but does not push up on arms.
I can’t shake the feeling that something is really wrong. Has anyone experienced something similar? What did it end up being? Did things improve?
Feeling really anxious and just looking for perspective. ❤️
