Quitting Plan Advice: Health Anxiety and Desmoxan?

Advice

Looking for advice/pointers/tips on my quitting plan as an 8-year vaper who has severe health anxiety.

In a few weeks, I’m going on a cross-country road trip with my dad, who doesn’t know I vape (and would NOT be cool with it). I’ve been really wanting to quit for a while, so I’m planning to use that as my opportunity. Spending hours in a car with my parent… sharing hotel rooms with my parent… I would have very few opportunities to vape anyway, so why not take that and run with it?

I was planning to do it cold turkey. However, upon joining this thread, I’ve seen a lot of great things about Desmoxan. It sounds like it could be helpful for quitting, but I have some concerns.

I struggle with pretty severe health anxiety. That’s honestly one of the main reasons I want to quit—every time I feel a slight chest pain, tweak, muscle spasm, cough, shortness of breath, general normal-bodily-quirk, I think, “Oh, this is it! I have a blood clot, or my lung is collapsing, or…” So, I’m tired of spiraling. I know quitting will lessen my anxiety over time.

That being said, taking a medication (especially non-FDA approved) sets off alarm bells in my head as an overly anxious person. Will there be side effects? Will it make my heart race? Will I feel weird? The list goes on.

Basically, I can’t decide if it’s better to just buckle down and suffer the typical cold-turkey withdrawal symptoms, or put myself in an unknown situation with a medication that may or may not give me side effects in the effect it makes the quitting slightly more tolerable.
