New Here-- dental office employee

i'm new here and need to vent about a reaction to Febreze at work today.

back story: i work in a dental office that is very fond of synthetic fragrances. all bath & body works hand soaps, Tide laundry detergent, dryer sheets etc.

they use heavy amounts of Febreze to spray the office & at one point had a Febreze plug in in the waiting room , till a patient complained.

every one thinks im dramatic for my complaints & irritation to the smells so i try my best to implement small solutions while staying under the radar (HEPA filter near my desk, bringing my own hand soap, do not wear any thing laundered at the office)

but today someone used the restroom, (which is in direct vicinity to lounge/lunch room) and proceeded to spray heavy amounts of Febreze to mask their poop...... the second they opened the door and the smell hit me I had the most intense physical reaction I've ever experienced: immediately dizzy/nauseous , instant extreme headache & feeling like my brain was swollen, eyes irritated- couldn't focus which caused me to panic & overheat , almost like claustrophobia/panic attack, I felt that overwhelmed. I've been dealing with a two week respiratory illness so I think my intense reaction may have been due to this.

On average I am very sensitive to synthetics, struggle to go near cleaning aisles etc but I've never had this intense of an experience which led me to seek out answers online / like minded people to talk to. My entire evening was ruined, I didn't feel well for two hours and then felt uncomfortable the remainder of the night. Almost like a migraine.

(I threw the Febreze in the trash & will probably get flack for that tomorrow but I don't even care. I can't take it any more)

I just wanted to vent because I'm so frustrated and feel isolated in this & very hopeless about it. I don't want to be made fun of but can't take this any more. Thank you for reading :(
