Advice for Teaching College Applications?
Hi! I’m a student from Vancouver, currently finishing my 4 year undergraduate degree in Psychology and Cognitive Science. I apply for teaching school later this year. My long term goal is school counselling. In BC, you have to teach for 2-3 years to be considered for a school counselling role. I had never considered going out of province, but due to recent changes in my life, I am hoping to be in Ontario for teaching school. I’m not too familiar with the system yet, and slowly doing some research. Not sure if this is the best place to ask, but what does the job market currently look like in Ontario? Are you expected to TOC prior to getting your contract? How expensive is teaching college really? I’ve found most universities have a by semester breakdown, whereas in BC we break down the whole cost across the 16 months (around 13k typically). I’m also curious how difficult it is to balance a job? I have a wonderful job in Fashion that allows me to have flexible hours and work from home. I would want to keep it. Typically, converted to EST hours would be 4-12 pm (I’m a night owl), would you say most schedules end before 4? I’m not sure how late schools can run, as on the west coast it can be as late as 8pm. Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.
