Something I've talked about that I'd like to expand upon.
In previous posts I've done(several of which don't exist anymore), I always assumed that Federation society, a humanity all about "bettering themselves and the betterment of humanity", a human that had "outgrown their infancy", had abandoned things like entertainment and sports, or even looked at them with disgust. I've been told several times that that's far from the case, but let me elaborate:
I've assumed, based on their credo of "bettering themselves and bettering humanity", that trivial pursuits aren't bettering anyone or anything, dedicated solely to advancing society in the world of science and engineering, or after having nearly been destroyed by the greed of their former leaders, and one of the ways they exercised power was via using entertainment to keep them distracted (the idea of "give the people bread and circuses and they'll never rebel"), they'd come to see entertainment as doing society more harm than good.
Not to mention, entertainment companies and sports leagues, I assumed, would be reviled and seen as symbolic of humanity's worst traits and wasting time and money on trivial endeavors instead of things that actually matter, and anything that could even be slightly tied to 21st century society or ideologies would be as deeply reviled by history as possible to destroy any possibility of them returning, and thus returning humanity to all the disgusting aspects they'd tried to desperately to shed.
Plus, there's the idea that entertainment is considered an escape from reality, but since Star Trek's reality was made a picture perfect paradise where nobody ever wants for anything, nobody would WANT to escape it, and further making entertainment feel like a pointless endeavor.
