I wanted to share something I learned recently selling on Vinted that I think other sellers should be aware of.

First of all, I want to acknowledge the obvious point that comes up often on Reddit: people will say not to sell anything valuable on Vinted. That’s a fair view and everyone should use their own judgement about what level of loss they’re comfortable with.

However, the **platform itself clearly encourages high value sales**. There are entire categories dedicated to electronics, laptops, tablets, etc. So the expectation is that if you follow the rules and ship items properly, the platform has some sort of protection in place.

For context, I’m not new to Vinted. I’ve done over 2,000 purchases and around 1,000 sales, have 5.0 feedback, and up until now I’ve won every dispute I’ve had on the platform.

This case was different.

I sold an electronic item for €100. I followed every packaging requirement they specify:

* used a professional laptop shipping box
* bubble wrap
* void fill so the item could not move
* fragile labels
* recorded a full video showing the packaging process
* photo evidence of the parcel being dropped off

Vinted reviewed the case and acknowledged that the item was damaged in transit by the courier and I was not liable.

Despite that, they only paid €17 compensation.

When I asked why the compensation was €17 instead of the sale value, they explained that it was because of the courier’s compensation limit.

That raised an obvious question for me.

As a seller I do not choose the courier. The buyer selects the courier when they purchase the item. Vinted generates the shipping label through their system and I simply drop the parcel off.

So I asked Vinted a very simple question:

**How can sellers see the compensation limit for each courier before shipping an item?**

Their answer was that this information is internal and cannot be disclosed. I’ve attached screenshots of those responses in this post.

This is where my concern lies.

If sellers:

* cannot see the compensation limits
* cannot choose the courier
* cannot increase insurance
* cannot declare the value

**then sellers are effectively shipping items without knowing the financial risk.**

Vinted knows the value of every transaction because it processes the payment. Yet sellers cannot see whether the courier chosen by the buyer only covers €17, €50, or €500.

That lack of transparency is what I find problematic.

To be clear, I’m not claiming this is a scam. Vinted is a large platform and most transactions work fine. As I said, I’ve done thousands myself.

But in this case I followed every rule, provided extensive evidence, and Vinted still limited compensation to €17 because of a courier limit that sellers are not allowed to see.

After more than 30 emails with support and legal, I’m now escalating this formally and submitting a complaint to the relevant consumer authority.

I’m sharing this here simply so other sellers are aware.

If you sell anything valuable on Vinted, it is worth considering that you do not know the maximum compensation available if something goes wrong in transit.

Just something to keep in mind before listing expensive items.
