Overflowing cup

Dear You,

This is the first day

I left you

And completely broke down

I thought about our lingering hug

And that extra squeeze right at the end

That spoke everything our minds held

I couldn’t fight it today

An “I love you” was drawn out of me

Seeing you in your humble, tired state

And when it was returned without pause

A smile permanently formed on my face

As if it were our first time exchanging these sacred words

And I was elated as I left you for just two sleeps…

That was until the tears came

The ones that ached for another moment to hold you, just a second longer

To grab your face and kiss you everytime we just stared and smiled

I show my love best with delicate touch

I love the tenderness of it and the rush

And my body is screaming to give you everything I have

To show you how much warmth I have in my being just for you

How much affection I hold in my heart

And the longing and compassion i keep safe in my soul for a human made just for me
