What Skills Should a Final Year EIE Student Focus On to Get an Embedded Job?
Hi everyone,
I’m a final-year Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering student from India, graduating next year. I’m planning to pursue a career in embedded systems and aim to get placed through off-campus opportunities as a Trainee Embedded Engineer or Entry-Level Embedded Engineer.
I’m currently building skills in:
- Embedded C
- ARM/STM32 microcontrollers
- Basic RTOS concepts
- Linux fundamentals (since I’ll be studying system programming and kernel soon)
I’ve also completed internships related to embedded/hardware, and I’m working on improving my practical project portfolio.
I’m feeling a bit confused about the right direction though. I’d really appreciate guidance on:
- Is embedded systems a good long-term career in terms of salary growth and stability in India?
- Should I focus more on microcontroller + RTOS roles, or shift toward embedded Linux?
- What skills make a fresher stand out in off-campus applications?
- Is it realistic to aim for product-based companies as a fresher, or should I start with service-based companies?
I’m open to honest advice — even tough feedback. I just want to make smart decisions early instead of regretting it later.
Thanks in advance to anyone who shares their experience.
