risks of no ties to home country? (filing for change of status)

changing from h-4 (dependent dual-intent visa) to f-1. lived in the US for over 10 years and i have zero ties to my country of citizenship. i wasn't born there, only lived there for 6 years, no extended family there, no property, and no current banking record. i'm filing within the U.S. and don't plan to travel any time soon. my university advises me that it's less risky to file COS than it is to leave the country to get stamped. but really how much risk is there that i'll be denied? extremely worried would appreciate any thoughts
