Is Transferring Worth it for me?
Hi everybody,
I am an older student (mid 30's) who goes to a t100 that is highly respected in a major market. I am interested in public criminal/municipal law work (PD, DA, city/state attorney). I am in the top 5% of my class after first semester (3.9 GPA), and it occurred to me that transferring might be a good choice. I currently pay about 20k/year in tuition, and expect to pay even less the next two years given my performance if I stay at my current institution (My school gives additional money to those who are in the top 10% of their class). I also have a summer job lined up to work at my City DA's office.
I'm considering transferring. I know that this decision ultimately comes down to my own values, feelings and willingness to incur debt. I'm just wondering if anybody can speak to whether or not it would be worth it for somebody like me given my background, experience and career desires.
I'm hoping that a T-14 could give me a better chance at a clerkship, and some career acceleration since I'm already starting late, and maybe even more opportunity to become a head DA, Judge, or lead PD one day. I also would love to have a bit more academically adept, curious colleagues - people who are more interested in diving deeply into the material as opposed to "is this going to be on the test" kind of energy.
I'm obviously weighing those possibilities against giving up my class rank, GPA, scholarship and chance at Law Review and social connections in return.
Any advice is wonderful. Thank you in advance!
