Lost my passport while on the "Waiting List for Review" (German Student Visa - Kathmandu). What’s the move?

Hey everyone,

I’m currently on the Waiting List for Review for a German National (Student) Visa at the Kathmandu Embassy. I’ve been waiting about few days now, and I expect to be in this phase for a while longer before moving to "Review" and then "Interview Selection."

The problem: I lost my passport. I am getting a new one issued, but my current registration is tied to the lost passport number.

1. Has anyone in Kathmandu successfully updated their passport number while still on the Waiting List for Review or before reviewing starts?
2. If I wait until the "Interview Selection" or the actual interview to show my new passport + police report, will I be rejected at the gate because the numbers don't match?
3. Is it better to just cancel and re-register with the new passport now, or will that put me at the very back of the 5-6 month total wait time?

I really don't want to lose my spot in the queue. Any advice from those who dealt with the Kathmandu Embassy specifically would be great. Thanks!
