Am I overreacting?
I (41f) am getting ready to spend a quiet weekend with my dog while my spouse (44m) goes to Orlando. He is going to celebrate his birthday and his sister’s birthday as well (birthdays are four day apart). I turned 40 in 2024. He got me a can of spider spray and a waffle. He’s spending close to $1k to go to Disney with his little sister for her 40th birthday. I’m a little disgruntled about this. Am I overreacting?
A bit of background- when he turned 40, we went to Las Vegas and I set up a skydiving excursion for him. He was mad because I didn’t invite all of his friends and family to come with us. His parents and sister weren’t interested and the friends he wanted to come all have kids and aren’t really financially prepared for a birthday weekend trip that requires a flight.
We did move in 2024, and it was a big move and it was for a step up in my career. He likes to tell me how much he hates moving, how the most traumatic thing that ever happened to him in his life was when his parents moved across town and he had to switch schools. He is also a mama’s boy.
I am not a perfect partner by any means; the move was big and he did end up farther away from his parents than he has ever been. I‘m vocal about feeling like an outsider with his family and being considered after his mom, dad, sister, aunts, uncles, cousins, and sometimes friends. Maybe I’m just a b!tch who’s bitter. Any advice/insight is appreciated.
Oh! And I’m probably gonna adopt a new dog while he’s out of town.
