Paid twice, no way out?

So I tried making a UPI payment late night to a cab, and due to some reason I got the money deducted message and email instantly but phonepe still showed the transaction is processing and the driver did not receive the money.

Had to make another payment (this time i selected another bank) and this payment went thru.

Now the first payment under processing gets cleared after 2 days at night 3AM.

So it has been a double payment.

Since the amount was about 500 I couldn’t take much pain to get a refund.

But how do you guys deal with a situation like this ? Phonepe asked me to get in touch with Bank which would force me to get in touch with bot banks and then reconciles the payments to each other to get any process further. What if it was a higher payment of about 5-10k
