flying with persian cats

Hey all. Sorry if this is a dumb question - I've always had anxiety around the idea of taking a pet on the plane, but I just got a heart breaking call about my grandfather passing away and I have to fly to Texas for the funeral service. Problem is, my cat is my emotional support aninal and I'm his. I can't bear the thought of him not coming with me if there's a chance he can and safely. Can persian cats fly on an airplane safely from Cali to Texas? I would want him in a seat with me, not in cargo. I believe flights are usually 4-6 hours if I'm not mistaken. My roommate could watch him but again, if I don't have to be without him I don't want to be. Any advice is appreciated.
