Places to stop by with a car in Hokkaido

We will be renting a car in Hakodate and driving all the way to Asahikawa. Along the way, we will stop by Lake Toya, and maybe the Upopoy National Ainu Museum and Park in Shiraoi. By the evening, we should reach Biei to see the pond waterfall.

Are any other destinations or experiences worth visiting on our way to Asahikawa? Any good restaurants or stores that are more easily accessed with a car? Any and all recommendations are welcome.
