Who's going to small shows?

So yeah, interested to hear about the scenes across the world, how many of You actually go to shows by small local and upcoming bands? Do You go to discover new bands at some small venues or do You only find out about bands if they get added to the lineup of some bigger bands/tours? As someone in a small band myself, who also goes to small venue shows for fun quite often, I'm interested to hear if people NOT in bands also do stuff like this.
