Is playing defensively viable?

Anyone play defensively? Like always trying to keep away from the enemies reach. Using ranger, psychic, and druid. Summoning a lot of familiars to keep enemies occupied. And so on.

I think a team of ranger+psychic+druid+cleric is the best for this.

How viable is this playstyle?
