What if ‘Golden Girls’ was a remake of a 1960 MGM blockbuster comedy film?
I love the thread that imagines GG currently in pre-production, deciding on who to cast in the key roles. It got me thinking the other way - what if the ‘Golden Girls’ we all knew and loved had been based on a big-budget MGM Technicolor classic that swept the Oscars in 1960? You can offer just a list of who starred in the key roles, or go a little further and write a famous review of the movie, and be sure to mention whether you’re Bosley Crowther writing for the New York Times, or Judith Crist writing for TV Guide in1985, the week that NBC is broadcasting the classic movie as a way of introducing the new series, or Roger Ebert or Pauline Kael or whoever you want to be and tell us your reaction to seeing the best women’s comedy since ‘How To Marry A Millionaire’.
For my part, I think Bette Davis must be Dorothy and Lillian Gish should be Sofia. Tallulah Bankhead would be a fine Blanche and Rose, hmmmm, maybe Kathryn Hepburn.
