About Hadrian and Royce

I'm about to finish Avempartha and confused about one thing. When >!Esrahaddon revealed Royce being the heir.!< Hadrian says he knew it too. How did Hadrian knew about this or what dos he knew about? Maybe he meant something else and i'm just confused. Is it going to be answered?
