Using dnsys X1 as a mobility aid for my dad with Parkinson’s
My dad was diagnosed with Parkinson's a few years ago, and over time mobility has gradually become more challenging for him. We've tried a few different aids along the way, mostly a cane and sometimes a wheelchair when we go out for longer periods.
Recently we started trying a wearable walking assist device called the dnsys X1. I didn't go into it with huge expectations. It was more of an experiment to see if it could help on days when he feels like standing or walking a short distance. One thing that has actually worked well for us is the portability. It folds small enough that I can tuck it into the back pocket of his wheelchair. If we stop somewhere like a park and he feels up for it, we can put it on in a couple of minutes. After trying it once or twice he more or less figured it out himself, so now he can use it without needing much help from me.
Compared with using a cane, it seems to make him a bit more willing to try standing and taking a few steps instead of immediately sitting back down. It's not perfect though. The waist section is a bit annoying to clean, and I do wish that part detached more easily.
At this stage with Parkinson’s, even small pieces of freedom feel hard earned. Some days are better than others, but moments like that remind me why we keep trying different things.
Has anyone ever tried this? Curious how they've worked out for others.
