Question About Open Play

I've been playing Elite for about a year, and recently hopped into open play to have more interactions with fellow commanders, but I don't really like anything PvP related. Should I stay in open play or find a Private Group Session to join? If Private Group Session, where can I find info (if any is there) to join?
