Is designing an Embedded System to Measure Ping Pong Ball Velocity and Spin a realistic goal for an undergrad?

Hello.

I’m an undergrad CpE major, (considering a CS minor too). I really enjoy playing table tennis, and I’ve been thinking about eventually building a device that can measure the velocity and spin of a ping pong ball with reasonable accuracy.

Which technical domains should I focus on to make this project feasible? I want to design a fully embedded system for measuring ping pong ball velocity and spin, rather than only implementing the vision algorithms in software.

If anyone is willing to offer guidance, I’d really appreciate insight into what’s realistically achievable for an ambitious undergraduate and what technical or practical limitations I should expect to encounter

Thanks!
