What protocol does Jellyfin use to retrieve metadata?

Say I have a movie file called "internet cats 1999." In order to retrieve the metadata from, say, the movie db or the like, I would assume the file name is sent to themoviedb, and downloaded. Is this process right? Does this use http, or https?
