I’m reporting in with another "dead" unit: my ASRock B850 Steel Legend paired with a Ryzen 7 9700X recently gave up the ghost.

I had constant stability issues until it finally died.

The good news? The RMA process was lightning fast.

I got a brand-new replacement unit in just 2 days, and it comes with a fresh 36-month warranty starting from now.

However, I noticed a detail on the new box that wasn't on my first one: a sticker explicitly saying "BIOS 3.40+".

This has me wondering:

Is this specific BIOS version (3.40 or newer) the "fix" for the stability issues plagueing this combo?

Was my first board just part of a bad early batch that lacked this microcode update from the factory?

I’m at a crossroads. I have a brand-new board with a full 3-year warranty, but I’m tempted to sell it while it’s still BNIB and switch to a different platform or brand entirely to avoid future headaches.

What’s the move here? Is the B850 Steel Legend stable now with the 3.40+ BIOS, or should I cut my losses, use the new warranty as a selling point, and buy something else? If I should swap, what’s a rock-solid alternative for the 9700X?

Another dead B850 Steel Legend + Ryzen 7 9700X Quick RMA turnaround, but I’m paranoid
