Parents of 4–6 year olds: what do you actually teach your kids at home?
I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately.
My child is in the JK/SK age range and I started realizing that most of what they learn early on actually happens at home, not just in school.
So I started trying to do a simple 45–60 minute daily learning time with things like:
- reading together
- letter sounds
- basic numbers
- simple thinking games
- drawing / creativity
Nothing intense. Just structured time together.
The surprising thing is how much kids improve when it becomes a daily routine instead of random activities.
But I’m curious what other parents do.
Do you:
• teach reading at home?
• focus mostly on play?
• follow a curriculum?
• just let school handle everything?
I feel like there must be a simple daily structure that works best, but every parent seems to do it differently.
Would love to hear what’s working for your kids.
