Does Taiko have a low skill ceiling? Is it one of the easier rhythm games?

I see high-level Taiko play and it seems impossible. However a friend of mine suggested that Taiko is one of the easier rhythm games compared to something like Beatmania IIDX or osu!mania. (For hand-based rhythm games). Or Maimai.

What are your thoughts on Taiko with drums or a keyboard?
