Marriage After PR application AOR – What Actually Happens
Ask Canada Immigration – Answer 09
Getting married after AOR always feels stressful, but the rule is simple: your CRS is locked, but you must still report the marriage. Hiding it is misrepresentation.
Your score will not be recalculated, and you won’t lose your ITA. But IRCC must add your spouse to the file, and that means extra forms and background checks. It slows things down, but it keeps your PR safe.
If you marry after submitting your application, IRCC expects you to update them right away. Waiting until after PR to “add” your spouse is not allowed and creates serious risk. A short delay is nothing compared to a refusal or a 5‑year ban.
The cleanest path is to get married, send a webform, attach the marriage certificate and your spouse’s passport, and wait for IRCC to request the rest. It’s routine, and thousands of applicants go through it every year.
