[RevShare][Hobby] I can take a back seat if someone more experienced comes along but I want to create a new low poly style for a 3D platformer where we start small, building systems and slowly grow it into whatever the community asks for. I've never seen a community designed game fail with good GM.

Programmers Needed

I have been studying programming and I am a bit burned out. I feel, I understand the iceberg well enough to begin programming a series of games that I have to abandon or start over as I learn more. In the time it will take me to learn this I could build an entire immersive mmorpg world but I would still need to program it. If I had the programming version of myself I believe it would be possible to do this with two people in ten years. I don't think ten people makes it done in two years though we could launch an early access much sooner.

I have a programmer I have worked with to launch a game on Steam before but it is his way or the highway. So I suppose I am checking what highways might be out there before I either work with this dude again or I start building my own highway. He was also not really open to showing me how to code. I learn fast and wanted to help but he just told me to watch youtube videos and didn't send me which ones he was learning off of. I ended up taking off in a different direction. So, if that is you, don't talk to me please.

I am interested in learning and helping wherever it makes sense to because I think doing it alone can quickly get exhausting. Bad communication can also be just as exhausting so, while I may seem demanding in this post I am more interested in a laid back development focusing on bursts of energy or slow and steady scheduled timeframes. Otherwise, I will slowly start this myself and add people when I can afford to pay them and keep 100% so that nobody is upset when I give the game away to the gamers. If you want to get rich, probably just save yourself the time now. I will make us sign documents on camera in front of the community saying we won't eff em in the back at a minimum. No launching a game then abandoning it.

I want to be on the same page with whoever the lead programmer is. I have enough experience to co-lead a highway, but I would need a programmer that is at least far enough along in experience that you are able to;

1)Setup ATLEAST one form of secure networking and willing to learn a new database if it allowed for more concurrent players than the one you already know.

2)MUST prioritizing building out the portions that enable the artist to modify maps, add skins and push that to Steam, WITHOUT you. All artist will be required to record themselves adding things to the game. I was so annoyed when I learned how easy some games had automated their development.

  1. Unwilling to give up on a project. We can take breaks, but the end goal has to be a game so versatile you can always add more to it. We can take detours and release smaller games using systems from this game to make money and then add those games back in as mini-games after they die off.

I think that is 90% or more of what I need to make your code move my art in a successful manner. After that it is the basic stuff any other project would ask for.

My intention is for the money to remain 50% art and 50% program with the gamers owning the video game in the end through community polling and longevity planning. If we get this far, anyone involved form this stage of the project will be retired, or able to. Eventually the goal would be to perfect the live service model but I am looking at Runescape at it's 25th anniversary and my goal is to not just make an art style that is as recognizable at a glance as OSRS, Halo, Among Us or any other game where there is no doubt the moment you see it on someone's screen. But, really play these old school games and learn from them as we develop this in order to make something that is timeless and played by multiple generations.

I have an overwhelming number of ideas for this and the focus is going to be on the ability to function quickly as a team and then starting with what the programmer knows, feels comfortable with or wants to learn first. First game launched on Steam is going to be as low stakes as it gets and just to find a few more beta testers for the next game. Each game being a stepping stone towards the larger game, using the same art style and systems.

I don't care about graphics in your past work at all, that is my job, send me your existing game. Maybe we can see how reskinning your existing games goes as a start.

Additionally, I would like start building some small streamer games. I am pretty open to game jamming one of those ideas out with whoever and I'll learn whatever art we need to make it happen. I think this will help build connections to streamers for anyone involved in these projects. I have plenty of ideas saved up for any given Sunday but, i am always excited to work on any good idea. Don't suggest me you ideas if you are over attached to their current state. Assume we need a circle and your are showing me a square, or vice versa. I don't want a group think tank of one mind. I want my ideas to be opposed as often as possible.

This is also your one warning. Right here, right now. When I say laid back. I mean; your work, your life, your family comes first. This second and gaming or whatever else third. If we get excited about ideas and then you are on World of Warcraft all week, you might as well just delete yourself from any discord I have the power to ban you from cause those dudes are never going to quit and there is always going to be games coming out or updates you want to play. You can play WoW, I am fine with that or any game that you are able to balance and not disappear to in untimely or stressful situations.

I will probably feel embarrassed and delete this within 24 hours to post a more rational, level-headed version in the future. Just got motivated by something and trying to put more action into reaching out and working with others. If you have a good idea that you can make in less than 48 hours but just need the art maybe we can game jam this weekend.
