I managed to grab a physical copy of "The Plowman from Bohemia" (Der Ackermann aus Böhmen). It's in Spanish, which is my mother language. I'm honestly blown away by the timing - it's been written just 2 years before Sigimund's army raids Skalitz!

The writer, Johannes von Tepl lived in Žatec (kind of north west of Prague). He was born in Šitboř, Poběžovice (1350) and died in Prague (1415). Though, historians think he was likely educated in Prague or perhaps even Bologna or Padua, which explains why the peasant in the book is so articulate and legally sharp.

The book is a 1401 masterpiece. It's basically a heated debate where a peasant (the plowman) takes death to court for taking his wife. It's amazing how well it fits the game's atmosphere. While playing KCD, we see a world ruled by faith and God but this book really shows how commoners in Bohemia were already starting to challenge that idea.

The way it talks about grief and defiance reminds me a lot of how Henry would deal with his own losses as a strong-minded peasant. He faces Death as vehemently as Henry would face the nobles.

It's not just and old dusty poem but a guy literally calling Death a 'monster' and a 'thief' for ruining his life.

If you'd like to understand the actual mindset of 15th-century Bohemian peasant, this is it!

Jesus Christ be praised!
