My minimalist "mobile office" setup without headphones
Ive been traveling through Southeast Asia for the last three months, and throughout the trip I have been thinking about how to minimize my gear
My laptop and smartphone are non-negotiable. The USB mouse is also a must. The only thing I can think of is my pair of noise-canceling headphones, which takes up a chunk of space. The audio is quite important to me for meetings as I am working remote
I am considering getting a pair of smart glasses for remote work. It is between Meta Ray Ban Wayfarer or a pair of audio only ones. I opted for something lighter, which comes without a camera which I don’t ever use anyways. At 35g, theyre the same weight as my regular glasses, but theyve completely replaced my headphones for 90% of my workday
The battery is super long lasting and I dont even need to charge it every single night. I use it for calls mostly. So that works out great. The AI summary works really well for me as I can take audio notes during long commutes, it helps summarize my thoughts. Though I may possibly look like a lunatic talking to myself on the road
I think the audio quality is great for calls, but not so good for music listening. But I am able to save much space in my bag, and I think that is a worthy trade off
But for the ease of being able to take a call or get a live translation while walking through a market without looking like a tech tourist, it's a great addition to my minimalist set up
