Issues after weaning off nipple shields
My LO was born a month ago and we had some latching issues initially, because of which our lactation consultant suggested using a nipple shield. Thankfully, we were able to establish breastfeeding with it.
After 2 weeks, we were advised to wean it off. It took us about 1 week, but we were finally able to stop using it completely. However, this has created new issues.
Now each feed starts well. She actively swallows for about 6 minutes. After that, she either falls asleep or starts crying. She unlatches, latches again, then gets frustrated and cries.
When her suckling slows down, I use breast compressions using the C hold method, and that usually helps her drink for another 3 to 4 minutes. But after that, she again either falls asleep or starts crying. When I switch breasts, the same pattern repeats.
My initial flow is very strong. I leak at the start of feeds and sometimes milk sprays out. From what I have understood, she seems to get frustrated the moment the flow slows down a bit.
I have been trying to find solutions everywhere, but nothing seems to be working.
Has anyone faced something similar? Any advice would really help.
