What do you do at home to prepare your kids for kindergarten?

My child will be starting kindergarten soon, and I’ve been thinking a lot about what actually helps kids feel ready for that transition.

At home we’ve been doing simple things like:

• reading books together
• practicing letter sounds
• counting and basic numbers
• drawing and writing letters
• puzzles or little thinking games

Nothing intense — just small things during the day.

I’m curious what other parents focus on before kindergarten starts.

Do you intentionally practice certain skills at home, or do you mostly just let things develop naturally?

Also wondering what teachers usually expect kids to know when they start.

Things like recognizing letters, writing their name, counting, etc.

Would love to hear what has worked well for your kids.
