Soft launched my produce last week
Haven't really advertised this much yet as I kept it to small number of LinkedIn followers. But the app is now a lot more stable and had some major bug fixes and performance enhancements.
I hope someone here will check it out and give some feedback as it's my first solo production app I am quite nervous about it still. The app has a 30 day trial hard coded in so you don't need to setup payment to have a play with currently. After the 30 days it requires a stripe payment of just $8.
The pitch:
You invest in multiple ETFs and assets and need to know how it all aggregates up. You want to benchmark your overall portfolio and see which ETFs and assets to tweak.
Fundsaurus does that for you. You can add any US domiciled ETF or asset from the database, download full holdings info for any ETF and aggregate an unlimited number of ETFs and assets into one portfolio.
I also expose an API that delivers the holdings information and the aggregated calculation.
UX:
UX design keeps improving I hope, the app now contains keyboard shortcuts for forward/back and also for the menu items. I want to encourage users to limit the use of mouse-clicks if they are able to since so many apps are very mouse-driven already.
Problems:
I did have some problems in week 1 as observability stack is still being worked on from my side, containers went down without me knowing. A lot going on right now on the devops front with beefing up deployments, observability and so on.
Sensitive information:
Nobody likes giving out their personal information especially relating to money. This is a financial app but it never asks for personal info and it can be used without your real portfolio being brought in. Backups run via Kopia which encrypts backup data at source, it then stored on encrypted drive on top and I am working on a way to completely obfuscate client Email addresses from production database.
Next Steps:
- Working on the pricing model for the API as this effectively exposes my entire data stack which I spent weeks working on. Finding a nice balance between number of downloads/calculations to be useful.
- Wondering if obtaining live or end of day feed information to track portfolio movements is worth it. This info can be obtained from many applications so imo isn't worth as much as curated analysis.
