QGIS atlas lay-out with "categorized" heatmap renderer

Open Question/Issue

Dear QGIS community,

For my study, I need to make several QGIS atlas lay-outs. I already feel quite comfortable with the basics of QGIS (with the exception of expressions, SQL and such) and it’s fun to work with GIS data.

But what I would like to do is create an atlas lay-out where a heatmap render is used to show traffic incident data (vector points) of a certain city. Whilst this is straightforward to do, I would also like the atlas to show the traffic incident data per year per page. I have already aggregated the year data column (which consists of 22 different years) into 22 rows where each row contains the vector points of one year with one column (which fields I to match the corresponding years)

But when I select the traffic incident data as coverage layer in the atlas options and select the years column as page name, the rendered heatmap stays the same if I switch between the year dates in the atlas preview. This is also the case on the main canvas map outside of the lay-out manager; all features are just grouped together. I already tried a lot of things and suggested expressions here and there on old internet forum posts but to no avail.

Does anyone happen to know a solution for this or is this just not possible to do as the heatmap does not seem to be supported via rule based symbology?
