How to tame a mammoth?

I have over a thousand days. I have no problem collecting the materials necessary to tame a mammoth. I can upgrade the taming flute as well. But I don't get the mini game. Even if I keep the bar in the correct place, it still cancels itself. To the players who have tamed a mammoth before, any tips are appreciated.
