Do massage guns actually work, or should I be looking at something else?

I hike, trail run, and play soccer regularly, so my legs are pretty much always doing something. Lately my quads and hips have been feeling constantly tight and heavy. I went to an RMT a while back and they immediately pointed out how tight my quads and hip flexors were, which honestly wasn’t surprising.

I try to stretch, but I’m not always consistent, especially during heavier training weeks. I keep seeing people at races and on social media using massage guns and swearing by them for recovery. At the same time, I’m not sure if they’re actually effective or just another gadget.

I was browsing online and noticed everything from budget options on Amazon, eBay, Etsy, Alibaba and similar sites to the more expensive branded versions. For those of you who run and hike a lot, have they genuinely helped with tightness and recovery? Or would I be better off investing time in mobility work or something else? Would really appreciate honest feedback from fellow trail runners.
