(dumb crack headcannon) teh real reason Giants and Children of the Forest do not interact with humans.

My head sometimes works in fucked up ways. I was watching a video discussing possible descendants of Ser. Dunk the lunk, which, unsurprisingly, included Brienne of Tarth, mostly because she is really tall and that made me have a horrible idea for a headcanon and an AU where magic is not seen as a taboo or as a trick but is actively sought after.

Everybody in A Song of Ice and Fire is short, and I mean really short, like the average height is capped at five feet or lower and bereft of any magic at all. The thing is, everybody wants to be tall and to use magic, especially nobility, to show how much superior they are, and there the Giants and the children of the forest come into play.

You see, the real reason the children of the forest and the giants avoid humans like the plague is not because humans want to kill them for being abominations; it's because they want to fuck them badly, like irrationally badly.

When the first man arrived in Westeros for the first time, a bunch of four-foot-nothing people with bronze weapons and dreams of being as tall as a tree and magic and seeing giants and children of the forest, it was love at first sight.

The same happened when the Andals arrived.

It is hard to tell who had it worse, the children of the giants, because on one hand, since a human woman sleeping with a giant male would not end well, giant males were outright killed on sight, so much so that to this day there's a gender disparity in the giants' population where female giants outnumber the males fifty to one, a problem the children do not have because thanks to their more manageable size, both males and females were captured alike, because yes, women also participated in the raping.

Though this day, there are still noble houses that send hunting parties beyond the wall to try and capture a giant or a few children of the forest, because the tall and magic genes did not stick around long enough to take root in the bloodlines, and they need a refresher, and yes, the Targaryens were the worst of the bunch.

That's why there are no more giants and children of the forest south of the wall, not because they were hunted to extinction, but because they all ran away and hid to avoid being fucked to death by a bunch of four-foot-nothing horny bastards.
