##Interesting Abilities
Prodigy of High Sorcery: Raistlin increases his damage by 400% for each Champion that is not adjacent to him, stacking multiplicatively.
- ~e12 post-stack multiplier after upgrades; Supported by an Item & Feats
Gaar's Note: This ability tells you that you want Raistlin adjacent to as few people as possible for the largest buff. That means Raistlin is very formation layout dependent for this ability.
Savant: For each positional formation ability affecting Raistlin, he gains Intensity stacks based on how few other Champions are also affected by the same ability. He gains one stack if there are three other Champions affected, two if there are two other Champions affected, three if there is only one other Champion affected, and four if Raistlin is the only Champion affected. The effect of Prodigy of High Sorcery is increased by 150% for each Intensity stack Raistlin has, stacking multiplicatively.
- No upgrades; Supported by an Item & a Feat
Gaar's Note: This one is gonna be rough to try to maximize but it's also his main source of power so you'll have to work on it. There are so many types of positional formation abilities (PFA) in this game that work in different ways and very few of them target minimal numbers of Champions. This is also going to make Raistlin very formation layout dependent. This ability's Item & Feat support buff the pre-stack modifier, making it a Mathematically OverPowered (MOP) ability which means the more item levels you put on this Champion, the better they get without worrying about the same diminishing returns as other Champions.
Debilitating Magic: When Raistlin attacks and is at or above 90% of his max health, he takes 1% of his max health as damage but deals 400% more damage with his attack.
- No upgrades; Supported by an Item & Feats
Gaar's Note: This is an odd damage bonus limited by your ability to heal him. Healers aren't super effective at this, especially considering his Herbalism ability so you'll have to rely on the other component of Herbalism and fire off some ultimates to heal him so he can continue doing max damage.
Herbalism: Other Champions' healing effects on Raistlin are reduced by 50%. Whenever any other Champion in the formation uses an ultimate attack, Raistlin drinks a cup of tea after his next attack, healing himself for 2% of his max health for each ultimate that was used, stacking additively.
- No upgrades
Gaar's Note: This makes Raistlin's max damage reliant on the cooldown of ultimates due to how Debilitating Magic works.
Flames of High Sorcery: While fighting in an area with an incomplete quest, Raistlin casts Fireball at enemies in the next area after every fourth attack. This causes those enemies to spawn with missing health equal to 10% of their max health, stacking additively up to five times.
- No upgrades
Gaar's Note: At best, this will drop the health of enemies in the next area by 50%. In a game that uses large numbers, that doesn't mean a lot.
Global DPS Buff: NA

#Formation & Mission Information
Once you complete the first mission, three Variants and a Free Play show up. It uses a formation that holds 10 Champions. It has a Champ-specific format that I've done my best to re-create below.

New Player Formation & Specializations:
While I recommend learning to build your own formations, here's a set of starter formations for brand new players to use while they get the hang of things. Anyone with other options should check that link for how to figure out how to make the best of them. You can also ask for help in the comments section.
| Back Column | 4th Column | 3rd Column | 2nd Column | Front Column |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| NA | NA | |||
| Asharra - Elves & Dwarves/NA | Jarlaxle - Leader of Bregan D'aerthe | |||
| Celeste - Life Domain | ||||
| Calliope - College of Valor | ||||
| Hitch - More Daggers | Bruenor - Battle Master | |||
| Minsc - Beasts | Nayeli - Oath of Devotion |
This formation is for the first couple of runs where you're just not going to get enough Gold to get everyone on the field, let alone level people up into their power curves. At this point, Jarlaxle is focusing on being your Primary DPS while everyone else is set up to support him.
The following formation is for once your Asharra starts doing more damage than your Jarlaxle. You can find this out by changing Asharra's first Specialization Choice to Potpourri (via a Potion of Specialization) and swapping her position with Jarlaxle at the end of a run. If Asharra is higher, next run start Asharra in the DPS position from then on.
| Back Column | 4th Column | 3rd Column | 2nd Column | Front Column |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hitch - More Daggers | Tyril - Wild Shape | |||
| Minsc - Beasts | Asharra - Potpourri/NA | |||
| Celeste - Life Domain | ||||
| Calliope - College of Valor | ||||
| Jarlaxle - Leader of Bregan D'aerthe | Bruenor - Battle Master | |||
| Makos - Dark Blessing | Nayeli - Oath of Devotion |
This formation should get you through the Event as a new player. If you have other options or think a different DPS is geared better, try it out and see what happens! Swapping Champions around like this can help you figure out what works best for you with your specific situation.
These are the rough Favor values you need to reach to make a Tier 1 Variant say Difficulty: Easy. Keep in mind that this is just a generic rating system and some Variants may be harder than others, even with Favor in this range. Earning lots of Favor (above what is shown below) before trying variants can make them much easier than they would otherwise be.
| Variant | Favor Level (Normal) | Favor Level (Scientific Notation) |
|---|---|---|
| 75 | 20,000 | ~2e04 |
| 125 | 15,000,000 | ~1.5e07 |
| 175 | 150,000,000 | ~1.5e08 |
Beyond Tier 1, Favor isn't going to be all you need to get through them. That doesn't mean you can't try though, just remember that if it isn't green it could be problematic. Always read the restrictions as they're going to be what makes it hard for you to progress!
| Tier 1 Area | Tier 2 Area | Tier 3 Area | Tier 4 Area | Reward | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| The Unfair Sea | 50 | Raistlin + Favor | |||
| Free Play | 50 | Favor | |||
| The Sly One | 75 | 250 | 600 | 1200 | Raistlin Gold Chest + Favor |
| Test of Sorcery | 125 | 350 | 800 | 1400 | Raistlin Gold Chest + Favor |
| War of the Lance | 175 | 450 | 1000 | 1600 | Raistlin Gold Chest + Favor |
| Tier Reward | Glowing Darts Feat | Timely Mage Feat | 3x Marvelous DPS Pigments | NA |
Not everyone will be able to complete all four Tiers of event content. This is a progress-over-time measurement system that lets you know where you are in the power progression arc and potentially what you need to work on to move forward. The table below has the approximate boss health values at the various end stages. Comparing this to your BUD will let you know how close or far you are from being able to complete things.
| Tier 1 | Tier 2 | Tier 3 | Tier 4 | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| First Variant | e22 | e68 | e162 | e322 |
| Second Variant | e35 | e95 | e215 | e376 |
| Third Variant | e48 | e122 | e269 | e429 |
##Initial Adventure: The Unfair Sea
Info: No restrictions.
Gaar's Notes: The area 50 boss for this event is the Adolescent Kraken. They are hit-based, so anyone can remove segments of their health and you can even click to remove them once every 5 seconds. The challenge is the combination of an endless wave of trash mobs that can block your attacks if you're not instantly click-killing them either with click damage or firebreath potions combined with the tentacles that will heal the Kraken if the attacks land. Keep the trash dead and the tentacles down to easily defeat the Kraken.
##First Variant: The Sly One
Info: Raistlin starts in the formation. He can be moved, but not removed. Only Raistlin and Champions not next to him can deal damage. After area 100, attacks against undamaged enemies have a 90% chance to completely miss. 1-2 Baaz Draconians spawn with each wave. They don't drop gold nor count towards quest progress.
Gaar's Notes: Raistlin gets more damage based on the number of non-adjacent Champs so that's what they're trying to encourage here. That 90% miss is rough but just remember that while the other Champs don't do much damage, they still do damage so they'll activate the kill potential here.
##Second Variant: Test of Sorcery
Info: Raistlin starts in the formation. He can be moved, but not removed. Fizban joins the formation. Champions in Fizban's column deal 1,000% additional damage. This bonus counts as a positional formation ability. You may ony use Champions that have positional formation abilities. In each boss area, a Sivak Draconian boss spawns as part of the first wave. It must also be defeated to progress.
Gaar's Notes: Time to learn what a Positional Formation Ability (PFA) is and how to direct them. Positionals aren't directly indicated anywhere in the game but you want to look for words in the ability description that directionally positions the buff output, not just things that reference positions to count stacks.
##Third Variant: War of the Lance
Info: Raistlin starts in the formation. He can be moved, but not removed. You may only use Good Champions, Tanking Champions, or Champions with a ranged or melee attack. Champions do not regain health when changing areas. Every 3 seconds, a random Champion is struck by a falling rock, taking 5% of their maximum health in damage. 1-2 Kapak Draconians spawn with each wave. They don't drop gold nor count towards quest progress. In each boss area, an Aurak Draconian boss spawns as part of the first wave. It must also be defeated to progress.
Gaar's Notes: This isn't horribly restricted but you'll want a shielder in to prevent the damage from hitting your health pool as that's preferred over healing afterwards. A healer works too just in case.
