First year, and I'm exhausted. Am I alone? Does it get better?
Looking for validation or constructive feedback if this is not your experience. I'm in my second semester and I feel incredibly burnt out. It just feels like everything in my program is urgent, and there's always some big project or test around the corner. I'm working with five 1:1 clients and two groups, and I have 5 classes on top of that. It's all in-person, and my commute is long (usually about an hour each way). If you add up commuting and school, it's about 26 hours a week BEFORE any kind of session prep or time put in for homework or studying for exams. I also work part-time cause these loans aren't gonna pay for themselves.
The sense I get from my professors is that it's this busy at every program, and that I should ask individual professors for extensions. I generally like my professors and believe they would help me, but it seems like this is a problem at a systemic level. There's a lot of general "we know it's hard" talk but I feel like the program doesn't really put their money where their mouth is, and if I take time off to rest not everyone is supportive. Then again, I tend to tire more easily than some other people, and I'm on the older side of my cohort, so maybe I'm an outlier? What are other peoples' experiences like?
