Times of India story about DVAC Trichy trap op, catching a gov official receiving a bribe (ஊழல் தடுப்பு மற்றும் கண்காணிப்பு பிரிவு)
Times of India has a story this week about the DVAC (Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption) Trichy unit catching a man red-handed while receiving a bribe. Earlier, this man, an assistant electrical engineer, had demanded a bribe from a farmer to provide him with an electrical connection. The farmer filed a complaint with the DVAC, and they set up a trap operation. They caught the man red-handed, with the farmer handing over the money and the AEE receiving the bribe. (not naming anyone here, but the story is from TOI).
Kudos to the farmer who filed the complaint. This man was willing to fight corruption perhaps even if it meant retribution of some kind. The DVAC did a great job too without a doubt, but they could only act because the victim was willing to come forward and file a complaint. It also appears that they acted quickly.
Also a good job done by TOI on posting this story. The community at large needs more such stories.
This is a good story to share. Keep DVAC in your phone book and document the evidence if you run into situations where you are asked for bribes or 'a payment without a receipt' or 'extra payments'. You can complain even after you have given the bribe. Let's do everyone's part to keep Trichy a great place for all to live.
