SERIOUS
I have noticed a lot of posts, usually from young men and (horny) teenagers, regarding the stance of the Quranic narrative on masturbation. Firstly, I'm 18 myself, and only have limited knowledge on this dynamic, but feel like there's some points to be made. Now, I am not gonna argue whether the text, in a legalistic sense, 'permits' it or not.
'And let abstain those who find not marriage until God enriches them out of His bounty.' (24:33)
Make of this whatever you will.
I know most of you have read articles like 'Research from X university shows that wanking 5 times a week will make you 30% more fulfilled and live 20% longer' or 'latest research shows how wanking X times a week prevents Y cancer'. But let's take a step back and do some first-principles thinking. All these low-effort high-pleasure activities: doomscrolling, wanking, etc. are SURROGATE activities, which WILL drain out your energy and your focus, in return for temporal gratification. You decide whether that's a profitable transaction. Perversion is not a trivial matter, it will EAT you from inside. Think about that before someone tells you 'it's not that deep bro'.
The fact is, wanking WILL make you WEAK: physically, emotionally and mentally. If you're wasting yourself in masturbation, you're essentially setting yourself up for weakness, perversion, an objectified image of females, and lowness. The weak man is not one belonging to the lower caste, or the one with an average jawline, or the one with a relatively small schlong, it's the one who was unable to master his baseline desires, and wasted himself sexually.
And yeah, it ain't easy, it is a BATTLE, the battle towards self-discipline. And the price is your soul. Greatness cannot come simultaneously with degradation, choose one. And trust me, it will bear fruit. These are the most energetic years of your life, use this Amanah from God in productive ways — hit the gym, learn a martial art, do some community work, etc. The energy and focus you will preserve through abstinence will go a long way in 'striving in God's path with your wealth and lives'.
Lastly, I’m not here to shame anyone. I’ve been through this struggle myself, and I know how hard it is. But the journey toward self-discipline, while difficult, is one of the most important you’ll ever take. And if you falter, remember that God is always merciful.
'And those who, when they commit sexual immorality or wrong their souls, remember God, and ask forgiveness for their transgressions — and who forgives transgressions but God? — and persist not in what they did when they know. Those: their reward is forgiveness from their Lord and gardens beneath which rivers flow, they abiding eternally therein; and excellent is the reward of those who act.' (3:135-136)
