Do you build / use the Crate Transfer Station?
The crate transfer station holds up to 200 disassembled item crates in its stockpile. Submitting regular item crates into the stockpile will make them become disassembled.
Disassembled crates cannot be used normally like a regular crate. E.g. Disassembled crates cannot be submitted into a base stockpile. In order to become usable, disassembled crates must be submitted into a Storage Depot or Seaport stockpile.
The Infantry Kit Factory is one of the very few (only) entities that directly produces disassembled crates. The IKF stockpile can hold 1000 disassembled crates of each output product type.
Maybe it's just me, but doesn't the Crate Transfer Station fail at what it seems to be designed for? It would be much faster and efficient to have a stationary small train + Stowheel pull crates out of the stockpile and directly dump into a shipping container (1/9x pull time vs 1/2x + 1/20x pull time for Crane + CTS). What's the point in having a "fast" storage of unusable items that must go through another entity (Storage Depot, Seaport) in order to be usable?
Most Resources and Large Materials cannot be directly stored at a Storage Depot or Seaport stockpile, so I can get behind the idea of the "fast" RTS and MTS. But for crates, not storing them in the much better and higher permanence Storage Depot or Seaport stockpile is illogical when considering the in-permanance of facilities. All a commando needs to do is nuke the foundation and everything is gone.
Furthermore, how does one even "disassemble" a crate? If a crate is "disassembled", it is probably opened or in pieces.
I can somewhat understand the developers' intentions to make the IKF output crate products to not be immediately usable, but what's the point in a structure that stores and converts crates into an unusable state?
