Possible OHW: Henson Cargill’s “Skip a Rope”

Far as I can tell, Cargill only ever touched the Hot 100 with this short and simple ditty which dryly tackled how children imbibe terrible lessons and mindsets from their parents’ conduct.

The song was made in 1967 and it’s every bit as relevant today. It cynically and satirically addresses domestic violence, generational trauma, fraud, and racism and all in just two minutes. Still one of my all time favourite country songs.

Todd would surely have a field day with this song! Here’s hoping he covers it one day.
