How to reach barista fire on a low income?
Background: I make about $45k/year with a track record of 3% yearly raises. I have maybe $12-14k in a pension plan (haven't checked in awhile), but that is all I have in anything retirement-related at the moment. This is because I'm working on paying down the last of my high interest debt and building up an emergency fund before moving on to any other financial goals. I'm currently 25 years old. Also, my expenses are pretty low and after I pay off my debt, I should have $750-1k per month to put towards investing or other goals. Happy to answer questions about my situation if it helps with an answer to my questions below.
Logically after I have no high interest debt and 6 months of expenses in savings, the next step is investing. My question is - is it possible to reach barista fire on a low income, and have you done it? What are your experiences and tips for doing this without being a high earner?
I'd like to reduce to part time work as soon as possible. In a perfect world I'd hope to do so by 40 or 45, but I know it will probably be later than that if I don't increase my income dramatically and soon. The good thing is that I know I will want to work in some capacity until traditional retirement age, but I'm hoping for more freedom to travel before I'm 65+. It would also be nice to have the option to semi-retire, even if I continue working full time longer than planned.
