Previous VC-Backed Founder Building Internal Tool --> Going Public?

Ride Along Story

A bit of background I spent most of my time in the FinTech/Payments space (think deep payments work, like doing EMV certs, building payment gateways, etc) and then ended up getting VC backed for a BNPL solution in Asia.

After that whole ride I started a Shopify Agency, focusing on organic traffic optimization, not generic lets improve your page speed, but rather looking deep into data and understanding how people are bouncing, how price elasticity affects brands, and doing extensive AB testing.

Been doing it for a little while and as we scaled I began building an internal tool that allowed our brands to connect their Shopify store, Klaviyo, and GA4 so we could more easily understand where their problems were.

The idea was simple --> Get data --> Find use cases --> Build Queries that replicate what we found in one client against the rest --> builds quick approve jobs for us to work on

As the tool grew, we then added SOPs that would be generated for the team to implement the fix, then cost estimates to get items approved faster, then built in a data explorer so our teams could get the exact data the needed right away and confirm the issue, and now the tool is being tested to actually implement the fixes, saving time for both us and the client.

The more I thought about it, this internal tool basically represented a large portion of our day to day job and could potentially be rolled out as a self service model to clients where they could find the issues, get the data to prove it's an issue, and then receive the SOP our system generates to fix it themselves or have us do it for them.

So it began, we decided to turn this into a public app for Shopify and we are now in the process of getting it ready to submit to the app store and I really don't know how it will do.

On one hand, I see the value, I use the tool every day and it saves us hours and hours of work. On the other hand, I don't know if a Shopify merchant would be willing to pay $50 a month to have a tool like this or if they have the eComm knowledge to be able to trust the data, but I'm sure there are some out there!

This is just the start but thought it would be fun to journal about our progress as we turn this public.
