I tried to start the conversation…
Tell me about your experiences of trying to start the “care planning” conversation with your parents. I sent and email to my parents (81m / 78f) and copied my two siblings basically suggesting that the family have a conversation about future planning in case of illness or an emergency. Things like healthcare preferences with skilled care facilities and related costs, and what should happen with their “hobby farm” if they become unable to maintain it. They’re independent and generally healthy with some age-related mobility problems but they have several properties, a business they’re selling (seller financed which is a whole other issue), and some hoarding and just lots of stuff. I tried to frame it that planning ahead can reduce stress and confusion later. Radio silence. I’m sure my mom is pissed. Dad will acquiesce to whatever reaction mom has. I’m second guessing the email but jeezus…
